Who we are

Ascend Business Guides started because we saw too many business owners paying for advice they could not act on. Our founding team spent years inside corporate strategy departments before deciding to bring that same rigour to owner-managed firms, family businesses, and growing start-ups.

We are based in Scotland and serve clients throughout the United Kingdom. Most of our engagements last between six and twelve weeks, though some clients keep us on retainer for quarterly reviews. Our consultants carry direct experience in retail, manufacturing, professional services, and technology.

Every engagement begins with a two-hour diagnostic session at no charge. We listen before we prescribe. If we cannot add measurable value, we will tell you so honestly rather than string out a contract.

What we do for you

Strategic planning

We build 12-month and 3-year plans tied to specific revenue targets, market conditions, and the resources you actually have. Each plan includes quarterly milestones so you know whether you are on track without waiting until year-end.

Financial analysis

Cash-flow modelling, margin analysis, pricing reviews, and break-even calculations. We translate your accounts into decisions: where to cut, where to invest, and how to negotiate better terms with suppliers.

Operations improvement

We map your workflows from order to delivery, identify bottlenecks, and recommend changes that reduce cost or turnaround time. Recent clients have cut fulfilment time by 30% within eight weeks of implementation.

Leadership coaching

One-on-one sessions for founders and senior managers. We focus on delegation, hiring decisions, and the transition from doing the work yourself to leading the people who do it. Sessions run fortnightly over three months.

Market entry research

Thinking about a new product line, a second location, or selling into a different sector? We research the competitive landscape, estimate demand, and model the investment required so you can decide with real numbers.

Funding preparation

We prepare investor-ready business plans, financial projections, and pitch materials for bank loans, angel rounds, or grant applications. Our clients have secured over £4.2 million in funding in the past two years.

How an engagement works

1

Discovery call

A free 30-minute call where you describe your challenge and we ask questions. By the end, both sides know whether there is a fit.

2

On-site diagnostic

We spend half a day in your business, reviewing financials, talking to key staff, and observing operations. This visit is also free.

3

Proposal and scope

Within five working days we send a written proposal with clear deliverables, a timeline, and a fixed fee. No hourly billing surprises.

4

Delivery and review

We work alongside your team, deliver reports and recommendations on schedule, and hold a final review meeting to hand over everything cleanly.

What our clients say

★★★★★
"They looked at our accounts and within a week pointed out £18,000 in annual savings we had completely missed. The fee paid for itself before the project even finished."

★★★★★
"Our manufacturing line was a mess. They mapped every step, identified two redundant handoffs, and helped us reorganise the floor. Output went up 22% in the first quarter after changes."

David R. Manufacturing director, Glasgow
★★★★☆
"I appreciated that they were honest about what they could and could not help with. The strategic plan they delivered was specific to our market, not a template with our name pasted in."

Frequently asked questions

How much does a typical engagement cost?

Most projects fall between £2,500 and £12,000 depending on scope and duration. We quote a fixed fee after the diagnostic, so you know the total before you commit. There are no hidden hourly charges.

Do you work with businesses outside Scotland?

Yes. While our office is in Scotland, we regularly work with clients across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The diagnostic visit can be done remotely via video if distance makes an in-person visit impractical, though we prefer to see your operation first-hand when possible.

What industries do you specialise in?

Our strongest track record is in retail, light manufacturing, professional services firms (law, accountancy, architecture), and technology companies with fewer than 100 employees. If your sector falls outside those, we will tell you during the discovery call whether we can add real value.

How quickly can you start?

We can usually schedule a discovery call within two business days and complete the diagnostic within the following week. From signed proposal to project kick-off is typically five to seven working days.

Will you implement the recommendations or just advise?

Both options are available. Some clients want a report they can execute internally. Others prefer us to stay on and manage the implementation. We price each option separately so you pay only for what you need.
